Sister is very excited to present Michael’s newest series of paintings, which incorporate painting, carving, and collage on wooden panels.  Michael weaves these elements together to create elegant and complex images whose formal symbolism and iconography compete with abstract passages for dominance.  As is the case in Michael’s previous work, he uses familiar icons such as masks, ribcages, and snakes to act as both familiar, inviting reference points and hauntingly vicious presences.  The ambiguity between the decorative and representational as well as comfortable and disconcerting provides an illusive paradox in Michael’s work.
