New Work

February 21 - March 28, 2009

Sister is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by John Williams.

The exhibition presents sculpture, drawing, and performance.

Williams will be showing four untitled sculptures that incorporate aluminum structures both as painting surfaces and pedestals.  He draws rudimentary legs and hands on the surface and them paints around them with white enamel. Bolted onto each structure is a cast urethane penguin wearing a plastic party mask.  He combines these elements to create abstract figures arrested in different movements. Accompanying the sculptures is a selection of drawings that explore the variety of poses that those hands and legs could take.

On three nights during the course of the exhibition, Williams will be performing the most recent in a series of 'Record Projection' sculptures.  The sculpture consists of small assemblage sculptures, vinyl records, record players, speakers, effect pedals, slide and 8 mm projectors.  A trance inducing light and sound spectacle is created while arranging and rearranging the core elements of the sculpture. These performances are scheduled for 8:00 PM on February 21, March 8, and March 13.
